Used Stainless Steel Fermenters

The standard industrial configuration is a vertical cylindrical vessel in used stainless steel fermenter construction — SS 304 for general-grade applications or SS 316L for pharmaceutical and food-contact duty. Standard features include a top-entry agitator with mechanical seal, a heating/cooling jacket or internal coil, a sparger ring for aeration, and multiple instrumentation nozzles (pH, DO, temperature, pressure).

Used stainless steel fermentation tanks for sale from our stock are inspected internally for surface condition and weld quality. Agitator shaft runout and seal condition are checked and reported.

Used Industrial Fermenters

An industrial fermenter handles production-scale batch or fed-batch fermentation for API (active pharmaceutical ingredient) manufacturing, organic acid synthesis, enzyme production, and yeast propagation. These are not laboratory bioreactors — used industrial fermenters in our inventory have working volumes from 200 L upward, with full process instrumentation and CIP/SIP capability.

Used Fermentation Tanks

A used fermentation tank is broadly the same as a fermenter — the term is more common in food and industrial biotechnology contexts (amino acids, single-cell protein, industrial alcohol excluding beverage). Stainless steel fermentation tanks used for non-beverage fermentation are our core stock. We do not carry beer, wine, or homebrew fermenters.

Single-Use Fermenters

Single use fermenters — disposable bioreactor bag assemblies mounted in a stainless or carbon steel support chassis — are available subject to stock. Single use fermenter systems are increasingly used in pharmaceutical contract manufacturing for reduced cleaning validation burden. Contact us with your required volume and bag specification.

Used Bioreactors

In industrial procurement, the terms bioreactor and fermenter overlap considerably. What distinguishes a bioreactor in our inventory is the combination of sterile design, precision process control, and cell-culture-compatible materials. Used stainless steel fermenter units in pharmaceutical-grade construction can serve as bioreactors for mammalian or insect cell culture. Specify your cell line, working volume, and DO/pH control requirements in your RFQ.

Key Buying Considerations

• Working volume & aspect ratio — specify working volume (litres or m³) and preferred height-to-diameter ratio; taller vessels provide better mixing homogeneity for low-viscosity broths.
• Material & surface finish — SS 316L Ra ≤ 0.8 µm for pharmaceutical GMP; SS 304 is acceptable for industrial non-pharmaceutical fermentation.
• Agitator configuration — Rushton turbine for aerated fermentation; pitched-blade or axial-flow impeller for low-shear or high-viscosity duty.
• Jacket vs. internal coil — jackets are simpler; coils provide higher heat-transfer area for large exothermic fermentations.
• CIP/SIP capability — confirm if the vessel has CIP spray nozzles and if the jacket/coil circuit is rated for sterilisation temperature (121 °C).
